Third Class-Third Period

Tuesday, November 18, 2014
Tutor´s name: Guadalupe Tobar                                   Level: Intermediate I
Topic: Wh-questions using passive voice  & birth order.

To beginning my last class, I explained a dynamic to my students, which consisted to ask students to made two groups ( Group A and Group B )and then, I  asked students to make two lines ( one line for each group) then, I told them that they had to run outside to see a list of sentences, try to memorize them and come back to the classroom. Later, I  asked them to choose a representative for each group. In addition, I asked each representative to write the sentences on the board. After explaining the dynamic I made CCQ in order to check if they understood the dynamic, fortunately, they understood the activity. I noticed that they had fun in this activity and I chose this activity because this was a very very dynamic and active group and I considered that it was properly for them. I also liked this activity because it was very complex; first because they had to read the sentences, then memorize them and finally to write them.
So they were doing three exercises in one activity.

To continue, students had a listening  . First, students read and listen to a short  conversation about two people using passive voice.. After students reading and listening the conversation,  I asked students to repeat it. and  practice the conversation in pairs.I was monitoring their pronunciation while they were speaking.

In addition, I continued with grammar explanation about infinitives and their usages and providing examples. In this activity students were paying attention and I made CCQ in order to check if they understood. I asked some students to provide other examples and many of them were participating even it was grammar explanation.

For developing the control practice, I asked students to complete some exercises on the book, which they had to change active to passive voice and create some sentences using passive voice, I gave them some minutes to finish this activity. Then, I asked them to read aloud their sentences in order to check the exercises. I noticed that almost all of them had correct answers for each statements. I really felt that they understood the topic and that they were able to develop these exercises on their books.

To finish, I asked students to stand up and I gave them some cards, which contained some questions relate to birth order; I used this topic because the teacher already gave them a reading about it and they had to practice it for the oral exam. So the teacher asked me to develop an activity based on that; for this, I used these cards with a series of questions about the topic. I asked students to  stand up and ask their classmates about the  questions in order to make them to talk and discuss their opinions with their classmates.

Finally, after finishing my teaching practice, I can say that I have grown as a teacher; considering that I improved my teaching in a great manner. At this time, I didn´t get nervous and the most important thing is that I improved the developing of the activities and for that reason they were more successful than before. In addition,  students learning process was more effective by the reason that I had learned more things than the previous semester, as being more prepared, monitoring students´work, explanation of grammar, in fact,  I could improved many errors or mistakes that I made  and between other things that I made wrong at the beginning of my first practice in teaching I. I´m so proud to be more able to develop my word as a teacher and I will continue to improve my teaching practice as best as possible.

Second Class-Third Period

Tutor´s name: Guadalupe Tobar                                   Level: Intermediate I
 Topic: Passive Voice

To start the class, I developed a warm up  called"The Hot dice", I asked students to make a big circle, and then asked them to pass the dice and when the music stops playing, the student who gets the dice will roll it and the student will create a sentence using one form of using infinitives and gerunds. I noticed that they had fun during this activity and all the students participated helping each other.

Later, I continued with a reading/listening activity in which students had to read and listen to a conversation. Then, have students repeat I asked them to practice the conversation in pairs. During the students were developing the activity. I observed that these students gave their best in every activity and they payed attention to pronunciation.

To continue, I explained grammar again, but I felt able to do it, the topic  was the passive voice, for this I also provide many examples. Students were quiet and paying attention in all the explanation and even they asked some questions related with the topic. I noticed that they had interesting in the class.

In the next activity, I asked the students to fill in the blanks and complete the sentences using infinitives, while giving some minutes and after check the exercises. I asked them to change some sentences from active to passive voice.

For the last activity, I asked students to make pairs and  try to guess the answers to the questions and give reasons why they considered if there were true or false. I observed that the students were exciting when they were discussing the questions. While I was monitoring them, I noticed that they had fun and they talked a lot about the topic, and that was the purpose of this activity.
Finally, I gave a prize to the group who had more correct answers. All the groups or pairs were activated and participated trying to guess the correct answer even they didn´t know that I would give the ma prize.

I consider that my second class it was successful as the first one; However, my tutor told m that I had to improve some things that I didn´t notice when I was developing my teaching practice.

Tutor´s name: Guadalupe Tobar                                  Level: Intermediate I
 Topic: Infinitives

To beginning the class, students made a dynamic called"Pass the ball", I asked students to make a big circle, and then asked them to pass the ball and when the music stops playing, the student who gets the ball, will create a one sentence using one form of using infinitives based on what they already studied in class the previous class.

Then, I continued with the presentation, for this I developed a reading/listening . First, students read and listen to a conversation. Then, have students repeat each line, After students reading and listening the conversation, I  asked them: What do they enjoy doing? What is boring or exciting for them? Between other questions using different adjectives in order to provide them more vocabulary. Is it expensive? Is he going shopping later? Finally, I asked them to practice the conversation in pairs. During the students were developing the activity, I was monitoring their work.

In addition, I continued with grammar explanation about infinitives and their usages and providing examples. In this activity students were paying attention and I made CCQ in order to check if they understood. I asked some students to provide other examples and many of them were participating even it was grammar explanation.

For developing the control practice, I asked students to fill in the blanks in the sentences using the list of infinitives in the box. After giving them some minutes, I asked them to read aloud their sentences in order to check their work.

To continue with the semi-practice , I asked student to make pairs, then, students A and student B were going to take turns to ask and answer a list of questions. Then, I asked students to talk about their answers.

Finally, for the free practice, I asked students to stand up and discuss some questions with their classmates.

I consider that my first class it was one of the best one, because I introduced myself to my students and could generate good communication with them. Also, I could observe that they were participating in all the activities and they had good attitude during the whole class.

In the feedback, the teacher just told me that it was good and she told me that I made some little mistakes, but anyways, I felt so proud of how I improved my teaching at this time.

Second Class-Second Period

Friday, September 26th, 2014
Teacher's name: Alex Mendoza                                                   Level: Advance I

Second Class_ Second Period!!

To start the class, I made a review of the third conditional, using a chart with some examples about how to use the third conditional in the sentences, I made emphasis in the use of the verbs, for that, I used other colors for remarking the verbs. Before explaining the in order to observe how much they remembered and if they had problems using the structure. I noticed that many of them remembered important points, so It was easy  reinforce what they already knew.

Later on, I continued with another activity in which they had to pass to the front and paste the correct verbs in order to complete the sentences on the chart. In this activity, I  observed that only one student made a mistake, so after everybody pass to the front, I asked them if the sentences were correct in order to verify if they noticed the mistake, and they did it.

In addition, by giving a worksheet,  I asked the students to complete some exercises. After giving some minutes to develop the activity, some students read their sentences and I checked them together, in particular, I consider that by checking the sentences together allowed to the students to concentrate in reviewing the sentences in a clearly way, also I asked some of them in order to check if they understand individually.

Finally, I asked them to create sentences using the third conditional, I gave them some minutes to do it and then, I asked some of them to read aloud their sentences and they did it very well what meant that they not only remembered how to use third conditional but also they were able to create sentences using it.

First Class-Second Period

Friday, September 19th, 2014
Teacher's name: Alex Mendoza                                                   Level: Advance I

 First Class_ Second Period!!

To beginning with my first class in this group, I used a funny warm up which is called “the supermarket” I had never use it before, but the teacher told me that I could use it because it was adequate to the topic. The game consisted in asking the students to say words according to the  alphabet using the phrase “If I go to the supermarket, I will buy apples!”, then the other had to say, If I go to the supermarket, I will buy broccoli”, then the other student had to continue with the next letter of the alphabet and so on. It was very funny and I could notice that they had fun during this time. Then, I continue with a chart in which they had to pass to the front and complete the sentences using the correct verbs. I asked some of them to participate and they did it very well.

In the next activity, I asked them to make groups of five, then, I gave to each group three bags which contained pieces of paper, the students had to order the words and make the sentences, I gave them some minutes to do it and I was monitoring them.

To continue, I asked to each group to say their sentences aloud and I asked to all the group if the sentences were correct. After checking the sentences, I continued giving them some exercises in which they had to write sentences using second type conditional, I gave them some minutes to do it, meanwhile they were working, I was monitoring. Then, I check their answers.

Finally, I used a chart to give them feedback about the first type conditional, I asked the students if they remembered something about it, and they answered me that they knew that second conditional it was to say something impossible, so they had ideas about it. To continue, I provided them some sentences and I made emphasis in the used of the verbs, in addition, I asked them to pass to the front and write sentences using the second type conditional.

The class wasn´t the best, I consider that I had developed better classes than this one, the teacher told me that I committed mistakes, something that normally, I don´t have problems with that. Also, he also told me that everything was great about materials and how I developed my class, the problem was my attitude, my energy and enthusiasm, I recognize, that I had to do it better because the class was boring and even I was prepared, the materials and all, my energy was down. The teacher asked me if something was wrong with me, and I had to comment him that it was the day in which my father died, so it was a difficult day for me and even I tried to give the best of me, I was sad.  I could say that I understand that doesn´t matter the circumstances the teacher has to develop the class as well as possible because the student don´t have to realize about it. So, l learned that I have to overcome the difficult situations in my life and develop my work giving my best effort.

Third Class-First Period

Beginning with my third class, I started with a warm up, for this activity I pasted two color papers on the board which contained a list of verbs, then I asked the students to run to the board and check the verbs, then they had to create sentences using "had better". To continue with the topic I showed them a chart with some examples of sentences using "had better and had better not" in order to help them to understand better. Then, I used other chart in which they had to paste to the front and paste some pieces of paper with "had better or had better not", so I gave them the papers and after they passed to the front I checked the answers; almost all the answers were right, but there were two that were incorrect, so I asked them if the sentences were correct, and they said that the last two were incorrect, what meant that they understood the topic very well. By doing this kind of activity, I could check or made CCQ in order to see if they already use "had better or had better not". Then, I asked the students to work in a worksheet in which they had to choose the verbs in the box and fill in the blanks according to the sentences, I gave them 5 minutes to do it and meanwhile they were working, I was monitoring their work. After the activity, I asked some of them to check the answers and if they had other options to formulate the sentences. Later, I asked the to make groups of four, then I gave to each group a piece of paper which contained some sentences using "should", so they had to change "should" for "had better or had better not", I gave them some minutes to do it, then, I asked some of them to pass to the front and write the sentences on the board. Finally, I asked them to work in pairs and create a short conversation giving advices using "had better and had better not", I gave them 5 minutes to do it and then I asked some pairs to pass to the front and performance the conversation.

In the feedback , the teacher told me that he liked the activities that I developed and how the students participated in all the activities, however, he gave me some advices about the warm up activity and the semi practice activity; in the warm up, he told me that it could be better if I pasted the color papers outside the classroom in order to motivate to  the students to have more energy and about the semi activity, he told me that I spent much time in this activity and that affected the time for my last activity because I had to run in the free practice, I didn´t provide the necessary time to the students could develop the activity. Even though, he told me that almost everything was great.

What I liked about this class was the activities that I used to help my students to develop their skills because they are in intermediate level, so they need to practice as much as possible.

Second Class-First Period

In my second class, I began with an warm up activity using sentences strips, I asked the student to stand up and make three groups, then I gave a bag to each group that contained 3 sentences in pieces of paper that they had to order in the correct way. In this activity, I noticed that they had fun meanwhile they were working and all students were participating too.

Later, I used some charts with some examples of verbs in simple past tense in order to remind the students about the previous class. First, I used a chart with regular verbs, in this chart, I explained them the three different pronunciations with the termination in "ED" of the simple past, so  I focused in the pronunciation and then, I asked them to pronounce the verbs after me.  I used the second chart which contained irregular verbs, and then, in the last chart, I explained them many examples using simple past tense with regular and irregular verbs. In my opinion, when I explain grammar,  I prefer to use examples than structures because it´s easier to the students to understand and pay attention in how they can use the simple past tense.

To continue, the students worked  in a reading;  first, I asked them  to look for new vocabulary, then, I explained the meanings and other examples. Later on, I asked them to read it and finally answers the questions.

Unfortunately, I couldn't finish the class, because one of the coordinators of access English asked everyone to go out. Even though, the teacher told me that I could continue the next class.

This time, I felt that I improved in my teaching, in other words, I have noticed that now I have more ideas to develop my classes than before and thanks good, this class it was successful because students paid attention to the explanation and they liked to participate in all the activities and learn how to use the simple past using regular and irregular verbs and some adverbs of time. I realized that they are a great group.
