Friday, September 19th, 2014
Teacher's name: Alex Mendoza                                                   Level: Advance I

 First Class_ Second Period!!

To beginning with my first class in this group, I used a funny warm up which is called “the supermarket” I had never use it before, but the teacher told me that I could use it because it was adequate to the topic. The game consisted in asking the students to say words according to the  alphabet using the phrase “If I go to the supermarket, I will buy apples!”, then the other had to say, If I go to the supermarket, I will buy broccoli”, then the other student had to continue with the next letter of the alphabet and so on. It was very funny and I could notice that they had fun during this time. Then, I continue with a chart in which they had to pass to the front and complete the sentences using the correct verbs. I asked some of them to participate and they did it very well.

In the next activity, I asked them to make groups of five, then, I gave to each group three bags which contained pieces of paper, the students had to order the words and make the sentences, I gave them some minutes to do it and I was monitoring them.

To continue, I asked to each group to say their sentences aloud and I asked to all the group if the sentences were correct. After checking the sentences, I continued giving them some exercises in which they had to write sentences using second type conditional, I gave them some minutes to do it, meanwhile they were working, I was monitoring. Then, I check their answers.

Finally, I used a chart to give them feedback about the first type conditional, I asked the students if they remembered something about it, and they answered me that they knew that second conditional it was to say something impossible, so they had ideas about it. To continue, I provided them some sentences and I made emphasis in the used of the verbs, in addition, I asked them to pass to the front and write sentences using the second type conditional.

The class wasn´t the best, I consider that I had developed better classes than this one, the teacher told me that I committed mistakes, something that normally, I don´t have problems with that. Also, he also told me that everything was great about materials and how I developed my class, the problem was my attitude, my energy and enthusiasm, I recognize, that I had to do it better because the class was boring and even I was prepared, the materials and all, my energy was down. The teacher asked me if something was wrong with me, and I had to comment him that it was the day in which my father died, so it was a difficult day for me and even I tried to give the best of me, I was sad.  I could say that I understand that doesn´t matter the circumstances the teacher has to develop the class as well as possible because the student don´t have to realize about it. So, l learned that I have to overcome the difficult situations in my life and develop my work giving my best effort.

Third Class-First Period

Beginning with my third class, I started with a warm up, for this activity I pasted two color papers on the board which contained a list of verbs, then I asked the students to run to the board and check the verbs, then they had to create sentences using "had better". To continue with the topic I showed them a chart with some examples of sentences using "had better and had better not" in order to help them to understand better. Then, I used other chart in which they had to paste to the front and paste some pieces of paper with "had better or had better not", so I gave them the papers and after they passed to the front I checked the answers; almost all the answers were right, but there were two that were incorrect, so I asked them if the sentences were correct, and they said that the last two were incorrect, what meant that they understood the topic very well. By doing this kind of activity, I could check or made CCQ in order to see if they already use "had better or had better not". Then, I asked the students to work in a worksheet in which they had to choose the verbs in the box and fill in the blanks according to the sentences, I gave them 5 minutes to do it and meanwhile they were working, I was monitoring their work. After the activity, I asked some of them to check the answers and if they had other options to formulate the sentences. Later, I asked the to make groups of four, then I gave to each group a piece of paper which contained some sentences using "should", so they had to change "should" for "had better or had better not", I gave them some minutes to do it, then, I asked some of them to pass to the front and write the sentences on the board. Finally, I asked them to work in pairs and create a short conversation giving advices using "had better and had better not", I gave them 5 minutes to do it and then I asked some pairs to pass to the front and performance the conversation.

In the feedback , the teacher told me that he liked the activities that I developed and how the students participated in all the activities, however, he gave me some advices about the warm up activity and the semi practice activity; in the warm up, he told me that it could be better if I pasted the color papers outside the classroom in order to motivate to  the students to have more energy and about the semi activity, he told me that I spent much time in this activity and that affected the time for my last activity because I had to run in the free practice, I didn´t provide the necessary time to the students could develop the activity. Even though, he told me that almost everything was great.

What I liked about this class was the activities that I used to help my students to develop their skills because they are in intermediate level, so they need to practice as much as possible.
